Color Theory: Art with Green

Sarah Simmerman

It’s no secret that I love color. I find it fascinating that color can have such a dramatic effect on one’s mood. I believe that your art collection should be curated around how you aspire to feel in each space in your home.

In this series I will take a deeper look into specific colors, and the energy they can bring into your home or office.

Today, let’s look at my all-time favorite color, green. Green is such a beautiful color and can have a different impact based on the shades used within the art. Overall, green embodies growth, renewal, and new beginnings.

Vivid Lime Green – This gorgeous color is full of energy and will invigorate your space. The bright, playful color is full of joy and optimism. I find that this shade of green inspires creativity.

Mint Green – This hue of green has a blue tone to it and is generally lighter in color. This is a refreshing color that will bring energy and a freshness to your space. This color can be both calming and energizing depending on the other colors it's combined with on the canvas.

Sage Green – This more muted than the other green varieties and can have grey or brow undertones. I use sage green often throughout my own home. This brings a relaxing and meditative feel to a space, while also inspiring growth, renewal, and motivation.

Olive Green – Olive green brings an earthy yet elegant feel to your space. It can be used in a formal setting, or a casual tranquil space.

Deep Green – I love to use this color in more formal settings. It brings a sense of elegance to a space. It is fresh, bold, and inspiring.

If you are looking to bring a sense of hope and renewal into your space, choosing an artwork with green as a dominant color would be a great option.
